More sidewalks and traffic calming measures to enhance pedestrian safety

03 March 2025

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents, road users and businesses of the construction of sidewalks and various traffic calming measures in Atlantis, Table View, Sunridge, Montague Gardens, Sunningdale, Melkbosstrand, Bloubergrant, Parklands, West Riding and West Beach. The work is planned to take place from today, 3 March 2025, until Monday 26 May 2025, between 07:00 and 17:00, Monday to Saturday, weather permitting and provided there are no unforeseen delays.

‘This construction of sidewalks and traffic calming measures will enhance pedestrian safety, particularly around schools and play parks where the highest concentration of vulnerable road users is typically found. All applicable road signage and road markings will be installed and applied as well. I ask that road users be cautious while work is under way, lower their speed, pay attention to road signs, be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, factor in longer travel time and consider alternative routes where possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
